DLB Big Chief
The 220 x 74 x 14-foot DLB BIG CHIEF is a true combination derrick / lay barge equipped with a dynamically rated revolving derrick configured with both main and auxiliary blocks, 100 tons and 10 tons respectively. The DLB BIG CHIEF is outfitted with a seven point mooring system capable of pulling 54 tons per winch drum. The mooring system is configured with 4,000 foot x 1.25 inch wire rope per drum and seven 14,000 –pound customized anchors. The barge is also configured with two 36-inch spud wells.
In pipeline mode, the DLB BIG CHIEF is configured to lay up to a 24-inch single pipeline or up to a triple eight-inch line. The barge is outfitted with two welding stalls and one x-ray stall. The adjustable 37-foot stinger can smoothly transition a pipeline to the seafloor at the beach or in deeper water. The DLB BIG CHIEF has a 50-kips tensioner, electric welding machines, two 1600 CFM compressors and three 6 x 6 Peerless jet pumps supplying the stern hose reel, which has 600 feet of bundled air and jet hoses feeding the custom-adjustable burial jet sled.
The DLB BIG CHIEF can be modified to recover damaged pipelines and trunklines of any diameter. The recovery method uses a BISSO MARINE designed and engineered "recovery line" that can provide up to 100 tons of force to pull a damaged line onto the deck. The recovery system accommodates both pigged and unpiggable “contaminated” pipelines that are fully contained inside a pollution containment area. The entire system is "cold," allowing dirty or "hot" lines to be safely recovered then disposed.
The large size of the DLB BIG CHIEF reduces weather downtime for customers, enabling productive lay and burial operations in otherwise unworkable conditions. The large open deck of the DLB BIG CHIEF can accommodate more than 25 miles of 6-inch pipe storage.
The derrick barge has comfortable accommodations for 56 persons and offers satellite communications, fax, data and television.
